Sophos update manager not updating
Sophos is an antivirus program designed to prevent viruses from infecting your computer, as well as remove viruses that have already infected your computer.
In order to accomplish these tasks, Sophos must be able to detect the latest viruses, which means that the program must be up to date with the latest virus identity files, or IDEs.
However, if you need to make a change follow the instructions below.
Go to the following folder and edit the file using notepad: For Windows 7 – Program Data Sophos Auto Update Config For Windows XP – Program Files Sophos Auto Update Config You may need to give the user editing the file permissions to write to the folder, my user account had read only.
Note that you can download a "Zip File" or a "Self-extracting File." A self-extracting file contains the software needed to execute the file, and thus may work better for inexperienced users.
Basically, it won't allow anyone or anything to access it or delete it.
By default, Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows, OS X, and Linux automatically checks for the latest virus definition and engine updates every hour (60 minutes).
If Sophos is installed properly, forcing the client to update – as detailed – is not necessary.

e.g The computer must be rebooted before this package can be installed. If you attempt to change the update location or credentials for a Sophos Antivirus Endpoint client, and the client is unable to contact the Enterprise Console or Sophos Control Center (they may be out of the office on the road), you may find the properties for the Sophos Auto Update are greyed out.
